Rags, sticks and other debris are removed from the wastewater in preliminary treatment by a bar screen with 1/4" openings in the influent channel. The captured material is periodically removed by chain driven rakes and dropped into a shaft-less screening press and compactor unit. Subsequently, the compacted and bagged material is disposed of in a landfill.
